Though they already lay claim to a separate and joint property portfolio that contains luxury residences totaling well over $50 million — including a historic villa in San Francisco’s Presidio Heights neighborhood, New York City penthouse, mansion in Lake Tahoe’s guard-gated Martis Camp enclave and recently purchased modernist Montecito home — high-tech entrepreneurs Mark Armenante and Young Sohn have added a Santa Barbara County compound to their real estate holdings.

Records confirm the co-founders of Vlocity — the cloud-applications software company acquired by Salesforce for a whopping $1.3 billion in early 2020 — just picked up a nearly 43-acre spread in the foothills of Carpinteria. Originally listed for a whopping $27 million, the place was reduced to just under $20 million before going to the couple for a significantly discounted yet still hefty $18.5 million.

Designed and built in 2009 by noted architect Andy Neumann, the estate features a two-bedroom, three-bath main house boasting 6,600 square feet of living space. Additional buildings include a two-bedroom guesthouse with kitchenette, plus a multi-room cabana sporting an outdoor kitchen.

Tucked away behind gates, on a sprawling ridge-top parcel offering sweeping views of the ocean and Santa Ynez mountains, the flat-roof structure is shaded by mature oaks and fronted by a gravel motorcourt. Inside, minimalist interiors are punctuated throughout with natural stone, walnut floors, sandstone walls, and numerous retractable and Vitrocsa Invisible Wall glass doors providing seamless indoor-outdoor environs.

Highlights include an entry gallery overlooking a water feature, which flows to a living room and library separated by a two-way fireplace. From there, the dining area connects to a custom Valcucine kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island and walk-in pantry. There’s also a plush master retreat displaying a fireside sitting area, spacious walk-in closet, and luxe bath with dual vanities, a soaking tub and large shower; elsewhere is a media room, gym, guest suite and an office space.

The posh amenities continue outdoors, where the picturesque grounds are laced with drought-tolerant landscaping, and host an infinity-edge pool and spa, and meandering pathways leading to numerous spots ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining. An added bonus: 28 Latest Solar panels and a state-of-the-art Sonen solar backup system.

Armenante and Sohn, both in their 60s, were initially long-term business partners and executives at Veeva Systems, the publicly-traded Silicon Valley cloud-computing company that made each of them extremely wealthy. In 2013, Forbes estimated Armenante’s Veeva stake was worth $659 million, while Sohn had a $643 million net worth. And that was before the $1.3 billion Vlocity/Salesforce merger in 2020.

The listing was held by Cristal Clarke of Berkshire Hathaway; Vivienne Leebosh and Caroline Santandrea of Sotheby’s International Realty repped the buyers.
