Creek Wood met many challenges last season. The Red Hawks had several different opponents because of the region changes and several key changes at certain positions, so Creek Wood finished the year 4-6. It was the first losing season for Thiel and the Red Hawks since his first season there as head coach when Creek Wood finished 5-6.

One of the biggest changes last season was at quarterback. Elijah Donaldson was gone so Creek Wood moved to Jacob Stephens. Stephens graduated after last year so Creek Wood has to find another quarterback. Lucky for them, they’ve got a Donaldson. Elijah’s younger brother, Eathon, will take over. He got some time last year at quarterback and has played almost all of the first team snaps so far this preseason. Donaldson has made his fair share of mistakes so far throughout the preseason, but he’s also made some plays both through the air and on the ground.

The Red Hawks are going to throw about four or five different ball carriers at opposing teams each game. Demontae Evans, DaDa Sweatt, Charlie McCormick and freshman Xavier Knight will all share carries this year.

Thiel is working out receiver Jamison Ford, who played wide receiver last year, but there’s been no official word whether or not he’s coming back. Creek Wood does have Keon Robertson, Demodest Henderson and Jayden Elliot at the receiver positions and all three have been making plays so far through the summer.

Creek Wood’s got a few familiar faces up front on the offensive line including Sam England at left tackle and Luke Grantham at right tackle. Carson Christy and Eli Edwards man the guard spots and Hayden King will play center as well as long snapper.

Austin Davis will play nose on the defensive side of the ball. Davis has been a wrecking ball in offenses so far this preseason. Stian Andreassen and Marco Ortiz are listed at the two defensive end spots.

McCormick and Grantham will play Jack and Sam linebacker, respectively. England will play Mike and Cy Lunsford plays the Will linebacker position.

In what could be Creek Wood’s most talented position group, the defensive backs, Alex Bradshaw and Clint Morgan will play corner. Morgan suffered an injury in Friday’s jamboree against Lewis County but the team is hopeful he can return and play Friday against Dickson County. The two safeties are Jackson Hamm and Jayden Elliot.

Creek Wood and coach Houston Thiel get the season started off against Dickson County on Friday, August 19.
