Why have just one building when you can have six? Each of the structures on this 18.5-acre property in upstate New York’s sleepy Kerhonkson (Gesundheit!) has a different use, making for a truly four-season retreat just two hours from New York City.

Listed at $4.95 million, the unconventional compound was conceptualized by techie owner Andrew Shane Robinsen, a Twitter innovator and founding designer at Square, and brought to life by architect Drew Lang. The property is available through Jeff Serouya at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Hudson Valley.

Surrounded by peaceful woods, it would be hard not to feel serene at the property. Each building clearly relates to the others; they’re all in a chic black shade with natural wood trim on the exterior and natural white oak interiors. All fixtures and fittings are ecologically responsible and top-of-the-line.

The main house, with a wall of glass up to the roof gable, opens up the great room to the outdoors. Kitchen, living and dining are together, and there’s a high-end wood stove for chilly evenings. The entry hall is dramatic with a rustic wood display system to counter the modern aesthetic. Cedar decking wraps around the main house.

The main level is where the master bedroom, with a stone and concrete en-suite and a walk-in closet, is situated. The lower floor includes another great room and the two other bedrooms. Another deck is accessible from this level. Radiant heat and a solar array with Tesla battery storage make the house energy efficient.

The pool, between the main and the pool house, is saline with a retractable cover, a spa, and a cold plunge basin. The pool is surrounded by a bluestone patio, pretty flowers and an outdoor music system. The pool house sleeps two more guests and includes a kitchenette, sauna, full bathroom and outside shower.

The screened-in outdoor kitchen is where the summertime parties happen. Offering plenty of bug-free lounging and dining space, it includes stainless steel cabinets with a built-in grill, smoker, pizza oven and dishwasher, all by schmancy maker Kalamazoo.

The multi-zone computer-controlled greenhouse incorporates a potting shed clad in über-trendy Shou Sugi Ban siding. Anything you want to eat (or smoke) can be grown here. Across from that is a studio/office, where the current owner likes to make music, although the space could be used as an art studio, screening room, or practically anything else.

Even the garage is pretty spectacular, with Tesla and Porsche chargers, a car washing station with floor drains, full HVAC and sophisticated garage doors.

So, while perfect as a quiet place to spend the summer, this compound would be great in the snow as well, enjoying the pretty vistas from the main house, warming up in the greenhouse, and hanging out in the studio. All in all, delightful!
